Virtual excursion to the site at "Lohmarer Wald"
Excursions to the various sites of action of the LIFE IP are hardly feasible in times of the Corona pandemic. Even if they cannot be a full substitute, digital options offer at least a little comfort here. ‘Bündnis Heideterrasse’ reports in this short film on site about the measures taken for the renaturation of bog areas at the ‘Stallberger Teiche’ in the ‘Lohmarer Wald’ near Siegburg.

Visit to the project ‘LIFE Trockenrasen’ in Brandenburg
On 23 September 2020, Kristof Meyn from the LIFE IP team at NLWKN, together with project partner Oliver Richter from the Lower Saxony State Forestry, visited colleagues in Brandenburg. Janine Ruffer and Stefanie Luka are part of the project team ‘LIFE Trockenrasen’ at the Brandenburg Nature Conservation Fund.

Excursion in the ‘Ohligser Heide’
Due to Corona restrictions, many planned events had been cancelled or postponed in the past months. The excursion in the ‘Ohligser Heide’, originally scheduled for the beginning of June, could be made up for last Saturday in compliance with the required hygiene regulations.

Wildlife detection dogs working in the field
Detection dogs have been used by customs at airports for many years to identify narcotics and explosives. But also endangered and protected wildlife or plant species that are smuggled can be detected with the help of these special animal ‘employees’. For some years now, more and more sensitive dogs have been trained to detect rare species also in nature to accompany appropriate conservation measures.

Further training for nature conservationists in the district government of Münster
On 26th February, about 25 employees from the Biological Stations, lower nature conservation authorities, nature conservation associations and research institutions met in the district government of Münster to discuss chances and problems regarding the renaturation of heath ponds.
