Excursion in the ‘Ohligser Heide’

Due to Corona restrictions, many planned events had been cancelled or postponed in the past months. The excursion in the ‘Ohligser Heide’, originally scheduled for the beginning of June, could be made up for last Saturday in compliance with the required hygiene regulations. Due to the heat, not all of the registered participants took part. But the participants who turned up followed the explanations of Dr. Jan Boomers (Biological Station Mittlere Wupper) with interest. In the oldest nature reserve in Solingen, it is possible to observe very concretely how biotope development works. As part of the LIFE IP, numerous measures to protect and develop the threatened birch moor forests and wet heaths have been implemented there since 2018. The first indicator species which indicate that good area development may be expected can already be discovered on the areas which were cleared for the development of wet heaths. During the inspection in preparation of the excursion, the blue-winged grasshopper (Oedipoda caerulescens), which is rare in NRW, was registered in one of the areas.
