Fourth monitoring visit of the EU Commission

On 5th and 6th November, the already fourth visit of the EU monitoring team NEEMO took place. The representatives of the European Commission were visibly satisfied with the progress of the LIFE IP. On the second day, by way of example they inspected action C17 in an excursion to the ‘Ohligser Heide’ in Solingen.

Network meeting for Amphibian conservation in Stadthagen

At the beginning of July, a network-building meeting was held on Amphibian conservation in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia by invitation of the regional association of the Nature and Biodiversity Conser­vation Union (NABU Landes­verband Nieder­sachsen e. V.), the project executing organisation of the "LIFE BOVAR" project which was launched in spring.

Network meeting with the "Belgian Nature Integrated Project" (BNIP)

Last week, the LIFE IP Atlantic Region DE met for the first time the “Belgian Nature Integrated Project” (BNIP) in the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MULNV) for an exchange of information and experiences.

First meeting of the project advisory board

At the end of April, the project advisory board of North Rhine-Westphalia met for the first time in the Ministry for Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MULNV) in Düsseldorf. The superordinate body allows for the exchange of technical and general information about the LIFE IP at the level of the federal state.

Spawning season of the common spadefoot toad has begun

In the breeding station in Enniger, the common spadefoot toads have started to spawn.

New spawning grounds for the natterjack toad in the nature reserve “Dellbrücker Heide”

In the framework of the Integrated LIFE Project „Atlantic Region DE“ conservation measures for the endangered natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) have been implemented recently in the nature reserve “Dellbrücker Heide”, to prevent the imminent extinction of the decreasing population which occurs there.

First actions to preserve biodiversity have started in the Natura 2000 site "Am Hanfteich" in Saerbeck

Last year, the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony launched a cross-national project to preserve biodiversity. As part of the Integrated LIFE Project "Atlantic Region DE", for example existing heathlands and dune landscapes, species-rich Nardus grasslands, and nutrient-poor standing waterbodies are being optimized or restored.
