Peatland conservation in North Rhine-Westphalia: Excursion to various bogs in the district of Minden-Lübbecke
At the end of September, the LIFE IP Atlantic Region DE organised an excursion to various peatland sites in the district of Minden-Lübbecke in cooperation with the Nature and Environmental Protection Academy NRW (NUA), the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection NRW (LANUV) and the Biological Station Minden-Lübbecke/ LIFE Meadow Birds NRW.

International Meeting of the Integrated LIFE Projects
At the invitation of the Finnish Ministry of Environment, a three-day workshop of all integrated LIFE projects from the fields of climate, nature and environment took place in Helsinki and the surrounding area in September 2022, themed "What did we learn?". A total of 49 people from 46 projects and 22 member countries took part.

Environment Minister Oliver Krischer visited LIFE IP actions in the SAC ‘Ohligser Heide’
On his summer tour on the state of biodiversity in North Rhine-Westphalia, Environment Minister Oliver Krischer last Friday (26th August) paid a visit to the LIFE IP Atlantic Region DE action sites in the ‘Ohligser Heide’ in Solingen.

Annual service meeting of NRW's Ministry for the Environment for Natura 2000 Day!
May 21st is Natura 2000 Day! 30 years ago, the European Union adopted the Habitats Directive. This was the birth of the world's largest coordinated network of protected areas and the LIFE programme to promote them.

Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser visited LIFE IP action in nature reserve ‘Brachter Wald’ in Brüggen
In bright sunshine, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser paid a visit to the ‘Atlantic Region DE’ in the nature reserve ‘Brachter Wald’ in the district of Viersen on 28 March 2022. The area is of state-wide importance due to numerous endangered and rare species such as the European nightjar.

New publication: Historical localities of Luronium natans
The LIFE IP team of NLWKN has written an overview of the historical distribution of the floating water-plantain (Luronium natans) which has now been published in issue 1/2022-A of ‘Informationsdienst Naturschutz Niedersachsen’ (p. 38-46).
