International Meeting of the Integrated LIFE Projects

At the invitation of the Finnish Ministry of Environment, a three-day workshop of all integrated LIFE projects from the fields of climate, nature and environment took place in Helsinki and the surrounding area in September 2022, themed "What did we learn?". A total of 49 people from 46 projects and 22 member countries took part.

The event was opened by the Finnish Minister of Environment Maria Ohisalo and Jean-Claude Merciol (EU-COM/ DG ENV). In addition, during the first day, the Finnish National LIFE Strategy 2022-2027 and the four integrated LIFE projects involved were presented.

The second day was used for workshops to share experiences from everyday project life and to develop perspectives for the future. On the one hand, this involved a self-reflective approach (What would we do differently next time?) and, on the other hand, concrete wishes and suggestions that were addressed to the EU-COM. Special attention was paid to the future Strategic Nature Projects (SNAPs). As some integrated LIFE projects are nearing completion, applications for SNAPs are already being processed in some member countries (for example Belgium and Finland).

On the third day, selected actions of the project "Freshabit" were visited, including a fish pass on the Kiskonjoki River and a reintroduction site for the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) in Latokartanonkoski.

In this area in Latokartanonkoski, a reinroduction project for the freshwater pearl mussel is ongoing.
