A3 PREPARATORY ACTIONS
Overall concept for the Natura 2000 site "Weißes Moor" (DE-3518-301)
Cooperation partner:
- District Government of Detmold
- Lower nature conservation authority of the Minden-Lübbecke District
The SAC “Weißes Moor“ is an important peatland complex hosting rare and endangered plant communities and animals. The area contains bogs, fens, heathland and ponds and thus many focus habitat types of the LIFE IP. The peatland is one of the rare remnants of the natural geographic unit “Rahden-Diepenauer Geest”. The overall concept aims at the elaboration of concrete actions for later project phases to improve the general conservation status of the area and to stabilise its function of an important stepping stone biotope for several endangered animal and plant species. For this, external experts will work on the following tasks:
- Implementation and evaluation of a levelling to elucidate the drainage system and the impact of the eastern and southern ditch including the elaboration of future rewetting options.
- Groundwater monitoring including the Installation and operation of up to ten sampling stations and evaluation of hydrological parameters in the course of the year.
- Semi-quantitative surveys for amphibians and dragonflies to clarify if (and to what extent) endangered species occur in the area, especially those focused on by the LIFE IP.
