A1 PREPARATORY ACTIONS
Overall concept for the Atlantic region

Conceptual design of a methodological approach for the implementation of the Prioritised Action Frameworks (PAF) and the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy

One component of the Project is the design of an overall concept for the Atlantic region in Germany for improving the conservation status of all non-marine species and habitats to fulfil the requirements of funding of Integrated LIFE Projects, i.e. to consider the whole PAF.  The national report under the Habitats Directive and the informing reports of the federal states will be the basis. Building on that, the need for action will be systematically derived. This component is supported with a collateral research and development project of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). The Integrated LIFE Project will offer a platform for discussion and coordination with the other federal states within the Atlantic region.

A large proportion (about 80 percent) of the Atlantic region in fact lies within the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, but also Bremen, Hamburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig Holstein harbour valuable habitats and species. In order to turn the tide on the national level, the LIFE IP therefore will provide the platform for the necessary cooperation between all the federal states within the Atlantic region.
