NRW’s Environment Minister Oliver Krischer visited LIFE IP actions in the SAC Further Moor

On the fourth day of his thematic tour 2023, last Thursday (3 August) NRW’s Environment Minister Oliver Krischer visited three peatland areas in North Rhine-Westphalia to exchange views on opportunities and challenges in the conservation and development of peatland areas. The minister also paid a visit with a delegation to the LIFE IP Atlantic Region DE action areas in the SAC Further Moor near Langenfeld on the topic of ‘state-wide potential analysis for the renaturation of peatlands’.

The 42-hectare peatland area is of outstanding importance for the flora and fauna of acidic or nutrient-poor wetlands in the Atlantic region. Within the framework of the LIFE IP, valuable open peatland and heath areas have been reactivated there in recent years in cooperation with the Biological Station Haus Bürgel and the lower nature conservation authority of the district Mettmann, and the habitat for the yellow-potted whiteface has been optimized and enlarged.
